Research Tips
Be sure to evaluate the source of your information. Remember, you can't believe everything you read!
Post questions and your Surname(s) to Locality specific and Surname Message boards, Forums and Web pages.
You can only get so much information on the internet.
If you are really serious about tracing your Roots then you will need to:
- Search Courthouse Records in the County where they lived for Birth, Death and Marriage Certs. (before 1906). Immigration and Estate
- Search State and/or Local Library Records for, News articles, Birth, Death Announcements, Census Records, Church and Cemetery records, etc...
- Go to the Cemeterys and Churches
Remember, most everyone has two family names: your father's, but also your mother's. Don't feel you must restrict your research to just your paternal family tree.
